An important routine

January 18, 2022

I watch him walk up and down the sidewalk

with a basketball as his sidekick

bounce, bounce, bounce

No matter the day or weather

Completely engrossed in his own world

He is old enough for me to ponder

Is he unconcerned with how others might view him?

Or are his brain and body quenched by routine?

I’d venture to guess both

I learn more from watching him

Than anything I see on any screen

His actions outrank the messages being thrown at me

and those thoughts I tell myself are important

Why not venture to do something enjoyable every day?

Dogs and life

August 4, 2021

I take my dogs to the grassy field

I watch them play with abandon

Down the hill like racing cheetahs

back up the hill like prancing stallions

Down and up

Down and up

Playing with the same red ball

A fourth or fifth replacement

from the original model

I think how crazy it is

that they enjoy the same routine

They are happy to take

their mirror image strides

Over and over again

Resting in their usual spots

Their mouths wide open

soaking in air

They look like they’re smiling

Maybe they are

They have life figured out after all

This is the fourteenth (#14) in a series of 100-word posts I plan to write. My ultimate goal is to create 100 of these 100-word posts in no set time frame. Thanks for following along!

I am good now

February 15, 2021

Mom took me to the place where I’ve been weighed

And poked

And given treats

That place is not half bad

Until I got tired and next thing I knew

I was waking up from a nap I didn’t know I took

My tummy hurt

And was colder and less furry than normal

And I somehow wedged my head in plastic

Dad picked me up

I couldn’t do anything but sit down and feel sad

About all the stuff I had endured

I was sure no other dog had ever lived through

Such confusion and anguish

I am good now
